Businesses, can you remember life before Microsoft’s Office? Well, more than 1.2 billion people use this handy software, for everything from simple word processing in documents to detailed calculations for critical forecasts in reports. The latest version, Office 2016, is packed with new features designed to improve productivity and collaboration that help support growing businesses.
Read on to discover what’s so exciting about Office 2016.
- Works with Macs – Office 2016 works with Windows 7, 8 and 10, and is available for MAC for Office 365 users.
- Revamped favourites – The full Office for Windows 2016 suite includes new versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook, Project, Visio and Access.
- All in the Cloud – Microsoft continues to promote Office 365 as a more comprehensive set of Microsoft products than non-cloud Office 2016. Storing documents in the cloud and sharing them across devices becomes virtually seamless.
- Better project planning – New business 365 applications in the pipeline include Office 365 Planner (a lightweight Project planning app) and GigJam (a task completion service).
- Team collaboration – Office 365 Group, as part of Outlook 2016, creates public and private teams. Each group shares an inbox, calendar, group cloud storage and an OneNote notebook.
- Attachment storage – Outlook attachments are now held in OneDrive and placeholders prevent storage of multiple copies of documents.
- Real-time co-authoring – Microsoft’s biggest theme with its new and pipeline Office 2016 suite is team collaboration and co-authoring. Virtual teams can work on a variety of documents with pre-established admin controls.
- Improved security – Office 2016 develops security solutions with Data Loss Prevention (applying central document authoring and sharing policies), Multifactor Authentication (secure remote content access) and more secure content sharing in Enterprise Data Protection on mobile devices used outside the corporate network.
- Enhanced productivity – Microsoft is emphasising productivity over technicality. Solutions focus on what things do rather than how they work – an ongoing cultural change in IT initiated by domestic technology. Business productivity is not obviously best reviewed by ‘back office’ technical IT teams who traditionally focus on how devices work and how they can be measured.
- An incremental approach – Microsoft’s plan is not to initiate huge innovation every few years but to make gradual and in some cases, slight changes across the product set to raise productivity and creativity. Changes will be more frequent but also more gradual.
