Over the last few weeks, it has been widely reported that Dynamics GP users across all versions that have upgraded to the latest version of Microsoft Office could be experiencing a number of issues when accessing & using Office from within Dynamics GP. Some of the issues that have been noted include being unable to email Word templates out of Dynamics GP as well as a custom VBA code compatibility issue.
In recent days, it has also come to our attention that the latest Microsoft Office update has broken the 32-bit data drivers used by our third party partner, eOne Solutions for their SmartConnect product which has impacted on the product’s ability to read certain text files and Microsoft Excel files (eOne Solutions have put a workaround in place for this issue, please contact Advantage for this). This demonstrates that the latest Microsoft Office update could be impacting on all third party solutions that you currently use within Dynamics GP.
So, what do I do if I have already installed the latest Microsoft Office update?
The best option would be to rollback your Microsoft Office version to the previous version to ensure that you can continue to use Office within your Dynamics GP solution.
NB: Before you even consider rolling back your Microsoft Office version, please talk to Advantage first as there may be additional changes in GP that need to be completed before doing this!
So, what do I do if I need to upgrade to the latest version of Microsoft Office 365?
The first step in the process is to switch off the automatic updates for Microsoft Office to ensure that you aren’t upgraded to the latest version automatically. If you don’t know where to find this option then please contact Advantage who can advise you on this.
The next step in the process if you are planning to upgrade to Office 365 is to get in touch with your GP account manager or if you are a new customer contact us directly where we will be able to assist with your upgrade plans so that any GP changes required can be planned and assessed as part of the upgrade plan (in line with the best practice and similar to all upgrades so that changes are tested prior to live deployment). We will also recommend that the known setup issues relating to upgrades to Office 365 and additional setup changes required on GP are reviewed, planned and tested prior to live deployment.
Next Steps?
If you are in one of the two categories above then please get in touch with your GP account manager or contact us directly to discuss your specific requirements today so that we can help you to move your business in the right direction.
