A new storage cloud model has been introduced for Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement apps from 1 April 2019 onwards, for all new customers.
The default tenant limit of 10 GB has been applied to Dynamics 365 since 2016, with incremental additional storage options.
Users accrue 5 GB per 20 full Enterprise level users, with the option to add extra cost per GB at a flat rate.
This new storage model has introduced 3 elements that cover storage in the Common Data Service for Apps allowing for greater flexibility, management of attachment storage and dedicated capacity.
These functions are:
Common Data Service for Apps Database Capacity Transactional database storage for entity definitions and record data |
Common Data Service for Apps File Capacity |
Common Data Service for Apps Log Capacity |
Different types of storage
Default Storage |
For new Dynamics 365 subscriptions activated after 1 April 2019, the default tenant-wide storage capacity will be. |
|
Accrued Entitlements |
Additional storage entitlements will accrue per Dynamics 365 Enterprise user licence (this covers Customer Engagement Plan, Sales Enterprise, Customer Service Enterprise, Project Service and Field Service) as follows:
|
|
Additional Non – Production / Production Environments
For those that have subscribed after 1 April 2019 there will no longer be a need to purchase additional environments. New production or sandbox instances are able to be created, providing at least 1 GB of CDS for Apps Database Capacity. These additional Dynamics environments created will consume at least 1 GB of Database Capacity.
Managing Storage
Administrators will now receive a banner notification in the admin centre with an email notification if limits are approached or exceeded allowing you to better manage your storage. There are more options for capacity add-on’s such as:
- Common Data Service for Apps Database Capacity
- Common Data Service for Apps File Capacity
- Common Data Service for Apps Log Capacity
Existing Customers
Only those who have purchased additional database capacity, additional production or non-production environments are impacted by this change. There will be no immediate changes for existing customers in these cases due to current terms and agreements, if needed customers can purchase addition database storage or production or non-production on existing terms.
Organisations that are billed under the Cloud Solution Provider program (CSP) or Web Direct will begin using this model when current Dynamics agreements expire.
However, for those that have renewals between 1 April and 31 December 2019, customers can choose to renew on the same terms or switch to the new model by purchasing the add-on capacity licences that have been presented in this article. The new add-on capacity licences listed above can only be purchased when an existing license term is finished. This means that only when an organisation has transitioned to the new capacity add-on license will the new default and user entitlements apply.
