Let’s face it, if you as a business are wanting to make improvements to your existing system, increase the number of integrations with third party products or even make it easier for your Dynamics NAV/Business Central support partner to change your system, you need to make sure you how know to find out which version of NAV or Business Central you are on!
Nothing is new when it comes to this as you can find out this information in your system, however it has become trickier to find! To make things worse, you need to make sure you understand that the product name for the software is not the same as the version number.
Now you understand the above, you need to know whether your business is on Dynamics 365 Business Central, Dynamics NAV RTC or Dynamics NAV classic.
To be able to find out this information, it can be quite simple as there are some significant differences between these three options:
Dynamics 365 Business Central
You will find that you are able to access this in a browser with ‘Dynamics 365 Business Central’ appearing in the main navigation.
Dynamics NAV RTC
You will find that this design has a ribbon and panels/tiles in the role centre.
Dynamics NAV Classic
You will find that this system has a ‘file, edit, view’ option at the top of the page.
Now that you know which system from the above you are on, how do we know which specific version you are on?
Choice 1: Business Central
Step 1: Simply access and login to your Business Central software from here, go to ‘Help’ which is in the top right-hand corner.
Step 2: Choose the ‘Help & Support’ button.
Step 3: When this window appears, you will see contained within the Troubleshooting field your current version number with the build version and the product release name directly after it.
Step 4 (For Consideration) - If you are using Business Central in the Cloud /SaaS you can login via a URL. If you are using Business Central on prem you will find that the URL is different.
Choice 2: Dynamics NAV RTC
Step 1: Access your Dynamics NAV software, from here, select the ‘dropdown arrow’ on the top left-hand side.
Step 2: Select ‘Help’ followed by ‘About Microsoft Dynamics NAV’.
Step 3: You will find that you can see the product release name in bold and the version directly below that.
Choice 3: Dynamics NAV Classic
Step 1: Simply login to your NAV solution and then go to ‘Help’ which is located at the top of the page.
