Are you using the game changing Business Card Scanner feature in Dynamics 365?

Are you making use of the Business Card Scanner in Dynamics 365? If not, you really should be as this brand spanking new feature is available to all those that have the mobile app, after it was released during Microsoft’s latest round of updates.

So what does this Business Card Scanner do?

This goes without saying but to provide more detail, the Business Card Scanner makes use of the brand new AI Builder function and OCR (Optical Character Recognition) to ‘read’ business cards and extracts the data and adds it to forms.

When you get this feature out of the box, it is available on the Lead & Contact entities. However, if you so wish you can add the control into other forms, as business cards tend not to contain enough information to make adding it a worthwhile activity but is a good starting point on a basic level.

So how do you access this feature?

The first step you need to take if you haven’t already is to download the Dynamics mobile app. From here, simply open up the app then go to the quick create menu which you can do by selecting the three dots in the bottom right corner and choose either the Lead or Contact.

After you have reached this point, select ‘Scan Business Card’ and take a picture of the business card in portrait mode. You will find that this will read the card and add the information to the form for you.

For this stage of the process, the new AI builder is used which enables you to take a picture of a business card and it will read the information there to identify what the content of the form fields should be.

You will be pleased to know that this is one of the default functions that comes with the AI builder.

This is only the start of the process of rolling out this AI feature to the general public, with the low code AI builder helping many small businesses to save valuable time.

This marks one of the first steps that Microsoft is taking to add AI capabilities to Dynamics 365 but even still this is a significant one.

With more AI functionality on the horizon, this is only the tip of the tentacle in terms of what the Dynamics 365 platform will be able to deliver in the future.
